February of 2015 my life took an unexpected turn.
On a whim, I decided to compete in my first local competition three days before it took place. Aside from watching Miss America on ABC every year, I knew very little about the world of "pageantry." However, despite hardly knowing a thing, I was encouraged by a friend and figured "what's the worst that could happen?!" Little did I know what I was getting myself into. Although not expecting it nor feeling ready, I was blessed with the opportunity to become the new representative of that community and informed that I was headed to the Miss North Dakota state competition in Williston in just a few short months. Here I am, six years later, and recently crowned Miss North Dakota 2021. I am ready to connect with others across my home state and promote my social impact initiative, “The Influencer Era: Impact Beyond the Screen.” My social impact addresses the importance of community and connection within this “influencer era” that we’re currently living in. My message centers around the idea that each of us matters and how we discover that meaning and value is in the everyday moments: by showing up for others through intentional actions. I believe that it’s important to remind people that every one of us has what it takes to make a positive difference where we are right now, in digital spaces but even more importantly in our face to face encounters. The places where each of us find ourselves is no accident and the people in front of us holds purpose, meaning, and worth. And it’s that impact and influence which ultimately makes a difference in this world.
